Dedication, in the other sense of the word

I was watching this show: Brothers & Sisters and it made me want to write something to show my appreciation for my mom. The youngest daughter is married to a man that is highly involved in politics as is she. She decided to write a book and hadn’t told her family or husband. The book was called, “Family in Politics,” so when the mom came across the draft she assumed it was revealing all the bad traits/ flaws the family possess.
This reminds me of something that every family/ parent does: assume. For my mom she literally does everything. When she does everything, she doesn’t ever go half way. . she always goes above and beyond. She is constantly on the ball and never misses a thing. But she assumes that we don’t realize anything she does and take her for granted. . . which sometimes the last part is semi-true - - only because we don’t tell her enough.
My Mom reminds me of a psychiatrist because she carries everyone else’s troubles/ worries on her shoulders. It’s just something my mom can’t get rid of. But that really shows her character and how she is as a person. She is probably the most caring woman I’ve ever met. She loves everyone. I learned the most valuable lesson from her: forgive and forget. But honestly she’s always thinking of someone else. From taking care of the only child living at home, kids away at college, grandchild, and a son on a mission; however the only thing she does for herself- - on a rare occasion is get a manicure.
I’ve grown up thinking/ knowing my mom was the perfect child. I got to see it firsthand this summer when she came up to take care of my grandpa and grandma. Out of all her siblings she was the only one that literally never stopped taking care of them or of the things they aren’t able to do anymore. She doesn’t take for granted her parents and she rarely asks for anything from them.
A parent should never blame themselves for one of her kid’s faults. My mom has been an amazing example to all of us and that’s all a parent can really do. It might take a child to move out to realize what their parents have done and that they were right most of the time, but at least it happened right?
In the show Brothers & Sisters The mom was so hurt, thinking that her daughter had failed to realize that she doesn’t just live in the kitchen, and hide behind her constant attention to her kids and that there’s more to her than that. But really the mom got caught up in assumption and didn’t read the first page: the dedication page. The daughter had dedicated the book to her mom acknowledging that she’s the only reason for everything she does and the reason for who the person she is now. . .which is exactly what I can say about my own mom.
